NDM case study: How has news changed

1. Those who are younger are more likely to use their phones and online websites whereas those who are older watch TV for the news although there has been an 8% decrease since 2014.

2. Those who are aged over 55 are more likely to use the TV or radio whereas those who are 16-24 use Internet and apps.

3. It affects this as those who can afford up to date technology are more likely to consume news on new technology but also on tv as well as they are educated and working so they won't feel as if they're being spoken down to or not being able to understand what's happening.

4. There are four main ways to gain access to the news.

5. News was mainly consumed through the TV but it has been decreasing through the years.

6. The newspaper industry has been declining and has declined by 27% from 2005.

7. Just under 30% 16-24 get their news from newspapers compared to those who are over 65%.

8. There is the daily mail, the sun, daily mirror, the metro and more.

9. Those who are younger are more likely to gain consumption of the news off of new technology and also being higher on the socio economic chart you're also more likely to afford new technology which means it's easier to consume news from new technology as well.

10. 53% of people who are ABC1 get their news from the Internet.

11. Around 51% of people say that they used the Internet to gain access to the news.

12. One of the most popular places is yahoo 26% of people go to yahoo to go and get their news as it also their homepage which make sit easier. There is also MSN which can be a home page but also Google news is used. There is also social media websites such as Twitter, Facebook, snapchat.

13. 61% of people who are aged 16-24 get their news from the Internet and social media websites.

14. Most people said that they go to the actual homepage of the website even for the apps tjay they use.

15. One benefit is that it is easier to access the news online as it is quicker to be given out but also a lot cheaper.

16. One advantage for institutions is that it is easier for them to get and find news stories which can be posted on their websites rather than having go out and collect it then go through a long process of getting it printed off.

17. One disadvantage is that the news can't be regulated so not eveything that is being said is true on social media websites which has caused a decline in the newspaper industry.

18. One downside for the institutions is that it causes them to decline, this is being seen even today with the newspaper industry as it has less people going to buy the newspaper as news is now expected to be free with the use of new technology.

19. I think that the changes in technology have benefited the audience rather than the institution. This can been seen from the 27% decrease in newspapers being read which was usually one of the main scources to getting news everyday. With this declining it is going to make it harder for them to compete with other institutions online as the newspapers are also needed to be paid for whereas the news online is provided for free.

This is also beneficial for the audiences as they can have wider access to the news from one device, this makes it easier and getting thr news is also a quick and cheap process and people can get their own news out through citizen journalism rather than having an actual journalist go out to another country and report what is going on.

Those who are aged 16-24 are also getting their news from the Internet, stats show 61% of people during that age range get their news online which shows that it's putting institutions out of business and younger people are going to use the Internet more. This could be because the news comes on tv at specific times and newspapers come out daily whereas online the news is always up to date.

However the one downside to this is that the news that people get online isn't always regulated which means that regardless of what is being read it may not always be true whereas when you watch the news on tv or get it from newsapapers it is always regulated.
